This adapter is only used for smaller sized collet chucks (ER32, ER25 and ER20). Since it is only offered in a short range of sizes, it has a very particular use. On occasion you will need to size down your collet pocket to clamp smaller drills or end-mills. In addition to needing the smaller clamping range, you must also require that the face of the collet to be as close to flush to the face of the tool holder as possible. Type 2 adapters (Small Extended Collet Chuck) is often used in place of this due to the fact that it is offered for all ER pocket sizes (except ER50) and has additional reach which is typically desired. Each adapter is equipped with a set screw at the bottom of the chuck to act as an adjustable stop. < Back
